Western Iowa Technical Community College Students Benefit from Equipment Donation
Food packaging system partnerships

April 20, 2021, Virginia Beach, VA – Busch Vacuum Solutions, in collaboration with a large food processor and equipment manufacturer, is pleased to support Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC).  The college has recently built a simulated industrial plant floor for authentic hands-on industrial maintenance training.

One area of focus within the Industrial Training Center is food packaging. The equipment donated for this area are two RA rotary vane vacuum pumps from Busch, a Cryovac rotary packaging machine from Sealed Air, and associated belts and electrical equipment from Tyson Foods.

“We have worked closely with Busch, Sealed Air, and Tyson Foods to select and install the equipment and systems that match those used in industry,” said Chris Sewalson, Corporate Training Developer, Industrial Solutions at WITCC.  Busch and Sealed Air technical professionals are also scheduling times to meet and work with students.  Chris added, “This will allow students the opportunity to learn about these systems and establish relationships that will benefit them in their future careers.”

Tyson Foods offers students at WITCC their “1 plus 2” program which is one year of school and a two-year post-school employment commitment.  The students enrolled in the program are exposed to actual packaging equipment, electrical circuits, automation, sensors, vacuum pumps, and more.

Due to the critical shortage of trained industrial maintenance technicians at many food processing and manufacturing facilities across the US, this program is essential.  Plus, it offers an exciting and challenging opportunity for students to develop a career.
